The collection consists of: a small number of letters, invitations and documents; radio broadcast scripts written by Michael Terry, dealing with inland Australia and Australian efforts in World War II; 18 books of press cuttings (1921-1977) providing a comprehensive coverage of articles by and about Terry; published and unpublished maps, and accounts of other expeditions; books written or owned by Terry; and Terry's photographic collection, including 28 negative albums, 37 small print boxes, and other material.

In 1929, Lasseter claimed to have discovered a rich gold-bearing reef in the Petermann Range country in Central Australia. He approached John Bailey in 1930 about arranging an expedition to locate the reef. Bailey formed the Central Australian Gold Exploration Co. Ltd which financed two expeditions. Michael Terry was an inland explorer, and in addition a freelance journalist and broadcaster. He led fourteen expeditions (using both automobiles and camels) to central, northern and Western Australia between 1923 and 1938 mainly for mining companies seeking minerals. Terry was the author of books and numerous magazine articles; these were mostly related to inland Australia.
